Visiting The Jackson Laboratory
General information for conference attendees:
Your conference namebadge will be color coded, most often coded red which signifies that your movements are restricted to public conference activity areas. To visit other areas of the laboratory you will need to be "rebadged" and escorted by a laboratory employee. Please try to make such arrangements before you arrive.
If your conference activities take place in an area with animal contact restrictions the administrative coordinator will send you the restriction information well in advance so you will be able to alter your activities prior to coming to The Jackson Laboratory. The maximum time for limiting exposure to rodents and certain other animals before entering a restricted area is five days. Some areas require a 3 day period of no exposure.
The Jackson Laboratory visitor regulation policy:
- All Visitors
- All persons visiting The Jackson Laboratory, including Visiting Investigators, trainees and contract workers, are required to register with the Receptionist in the Main Laboratory Library/Conference Center and will be issued a Red, Yellow, Green, or JMS badge*. The badge must be worn during the visit and must be turned in to the Receptionist at the end of the visit. The type of badge determines the areas that a visitor may enter. For Conference Attendees, the color of the badge is determined by the activities in the conference or course schedule. Your event coordinator will provide you with any necessary prior animal contact restrictions.
- Red Badge -- may enter only Library/Conference Center, Business Office, Training Office, Director's Office, Public Information Office, Employee Services Office, Health Office, Office of Sponsored Programs, Office of the Chief Operating Officer, Informatics area, Engineering and Safety Offices, Laboratory Animal Health, Computer Center, and Development Building (no research laboratories or animal facilities); must be escorted by a Laboratory employee. *** Most conference participants will receive a red badge. Badge code changes can be requested at the Main Lab Front Desk. Highseas Conference Center is not badge code sensitive, but badges must be worn at all times.***
