Attendees come primarily to learn, presumably not already knowing a great deal about the overall topic or portions thereof. Courses may be small or large, but are always characterized as intensely interactive affairs consisting primarily of didactic presentations with related workshop components. Courses are designed to teach and therefore usually offer topical material in a historical context with substantial amounts of introductory information. Typically, courses have a syllabus driven format.
