Workshop on Embryo Transfer
Scope/Topic
Jun 13, 2012 - Jun 15, 2012 The Jackson Laboratory, Bar Harbor ME
As the use of embryo cryopreservation for archiving and distributing strains of mice grows, so does the need for training in methods to handle and recover embryos. This workshop involves active participation and will help facilitate the adoption of a very efficient approach for importing mouse strains. Experienced technicians from the Cryopreservation lab at the Jackson Laboratory will teach these skills over this three-day workshop. These technicians each perform 60-100 embryo transfers every week. This workshop is offered as a supplemental session to the Cryopreservation Workshop, but is also offered as a standalone.
In order to protect the health of the large mouse colonies at the Laboratory, certain regulations are in effect regarding prior contact with laboratory animals or pet rodents. Specifically, investigators cannot enter certain areas of the Laboratory if they have had any contact (handling or presence in an animal room) with laboratory animals, especially rodents, within the previous five days. Workshop activities are held in these restricted areas. It is important that course participants not have any contact with laboratory animals five days prior to arriving at the Laboratory.
