The Jackson Laboratory and The Scripps Research Institute have teamed together to offer an advanced surgical workshop in mice. This two day hands-on workshop will cover the following surgeries: vasectomy, castration, ovarian transplant, ovariectomy, jugular vein & carotid artery catheterization. Aseptic techniques, basic mouse anatomy, instruction on handling, catheter selection and maintenance will also be covered. Participants should have some basic surgery knowledge and the ability to work under a dissecting microscope.

This workshop can be used for continuing education units for AALAS recertification.

The workshop will take place from 8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. each day.  On the first day, we will teach vasectomy and castration in the morning, break for lunch, and cover ovarian transplant and ovariectomy in the afternoon.  On the second day, we will teach jugular vein catheterizations in the morning, break for lunch, and cover carotid artery catheterizations in the afternoon.
