Workshop on Mouse Sperm Cryopreservation
Scope/Topic
Nov 1, 2009 - Nov 3, 2009 The Jackson Laboratory, Bar Harbor ME
Topic
This course is offered to teach sperm cryopreservation of research strains of mice. The course is designed primarily as a "hands-on" laboratory program in which participants will learn the new mouse sperm cryopreservation procedure recently announced by The Jackson Laboratory. In addition, general principles of sperm cryobiology, inventory databases and adaptation of long-term storage systems and cryogenic equipment for different situations will be discussed. IVF will not be covered in this workshop.
In order to protect the health of the large mouse colonies at the Laboratory, certain regulations are in effect regarding prior contact with laboratory animals or pet rodents. Specifically, investigators cannot enter certain areas of the Laboratory if they have had any contact (handling or presence in an animal room) with laboratory animals, especially rodents, within the previous five days. Workshop activities are held in these restricted areas. Course participants may not have any contact with laboratory animals five days prior to arriving at The Jackson Laboratory.
This workshop is limited to 16 participants.
