Short Course on Systems Genetics

This one-week course covers computational and experimental approaches to genetic studies that utilize whole genome approaches. Lectures and computer workshops are designed to accommodate students with a wide variety of backgrounds. Biologists seeking to gain a deeper understanding of statistical and computational methods as well as quantitative scientists desiring exposure to biological problems are welcome. Topics to be covered include genetic mapping, gene expression microarray analysis and computational modeling of complex systems.

We are pleased to announce no fee increases this year!
Registration fee: $1,500, or $1200 for students (requires proof of enrollment in an accredited degree program, or postdoc training, or medical internship.)
The registration fee includes all course materials, lodging at the Highseas Conference Center and meals during the course.
To complete your application, please:

- Send a brief curriculum vitae, (2 page maximum) by email attachment to the event planner, Nancy Place.
- Have your mentor or supervisor send a letter of recommendation via email to Nancy Place. (This step is only required of students and post docs.)
Applications will be reviewed and participants will be selected until the course is filled.

Hotel/Travel

Participants and some faculty reside together at Highseas Conference Center, a Georgian style mansion built in 1912. Highseas is perched on the cliffs overlooking the entrance to Frenchman Bay and surrounded by beautiful Acadia National Park. This is casual, dormitory-style housing, consisting of shared bedrooms and bathrooms. Wireless internet access is provided throughout the building. Laundry facilities are available on site.
You should plan to arrive at Highseas on October 19th any time after 12:00 noon, and depart on October 25 in the evening or on the morning of October 26 by 12:00pm.

Air
Bar Harbor is served by two airports:
- Hancock County/Bar Harbor Airport (BHB)
- Bangor Airport (BGR)
New visa rules by the U.S. State Department now in effect beginning in August 2008, visitors traveling to the U.S. from visa waiver countries (i.e. Europe, Japan, Australia, etc.) will have to register online 3 days in advance of travel.

Bar Harbor is approximately 6 hours by car from the greater Boston area.
