17th Annual Short Course on Experimental Models of Human Cancer

This is a graduate-level genetics course for predoctoral and postdoctoral students as well as established investigators entering the field of mouse genetics. The course focuses on the mouse as an experimental tool in cancer research.
Workshops will include: mouse genome informatics, laboratory animal biomethods (optional), gross pathology, necropsy and tumor histo-pathology. The intensive course offers a mix of formal lectures, discussion groups, demonstrations, workshops and tutorials. The course is held in a retreat-like setting and is limited to 35 participants to ensure a supportive learning atmosphere with exceptional interaction between students and faculty.
This course is run in collaboration with Harvard-Partners Center for Genetics and Genomics at Harvard Medical School.

Applications will be reviewed on a competitive selection basis until the course is filled.
Enrollment is limited to 35. Applications by women and minorities in the life sciences are highly encouraged.
Application for admission is made by submitting ALL of the following:
-an Application Form (.pdf);
-Your curriculum vitae;
-A letter briefly describing your motivation to attend this course;
-A letter of recommendation from your major professor or PI(for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows only).
Travel scholarships are available for students who have financial need/minority status. If you wish to apply for a scholarship, please include a statement in your application letter that demonstrates your eligibility for support. The amount of scholarship will depend on the number of accepted applicants who are qualified to receive the funding support.
All applications may be submitted via email, to the event coordinator (contact person above).
Accepted applicants will be notified as soon as possible and will be provided with registration instructions.
Registration Fee: $1,500, $1,200 students (requires proof of enrollment in an accredited degree program, or post doctoral training, or medical internship.)
The registration fee includes course materials, meals, and lodging at The Highseas Conference Center.
Mouse anatomy and biology reading materials and resources are available online for advance reading.

All students and some faculty reside together at The Highseas Conference Center, a spacious mansion built in 1912 , overlooking the entrance to Frenchman Bay and adjacent to beautiful Acadia National Park. The retreat setting and dormitory style housing, consisting of shared bedrooms and bathrooms, and promotes an interactive environment that sets this course apart from all others. Meals are prepared by our resident chef. Wireless internet access and laundry facilities are available on site.
