This course provides training in the theory and practice of maintaining mouse colonies for production and research. This program is designed for scientists, colony managers, animal care technicians and students requiring an understanding of issues relating to the management of animal research and production colonies.

Workshop meets the requirements for 21 hours of continuing education credit in jurisdictions that recognize the AAVSB RACE approval; participants should be aware, however, that some boards have limitations on the number of hours accepted in certain categories and/or restrictions on certain methods of delivery of continuing education

Enrollment is limited to 40 selected from applications. All items must be submitted before an acceptance decision can be made. Applications will be reviewed until the workshop is full. Application for admission is made by submitting the following items:
-An Application Form (.pdf);
-Your curriculum vitae (2 pages maximum);
-A very brief letter of support from your supervisor or mentor.
Applications may be mailed or submitted by e-mail or fax following instructions on the Application Form.
Applications by women and minorities in the life sciences are strongly encouraged
Accepted applicants will be provided with registration information and lodging options.
Registration fee $1,200, $1,000 students (proof of student or post-doc status required at registration)
The fee includes workshop materials, meals and shared dormitory style lodging. Should registrant desire single room accomodations, they must stay offsite and transport themself to the workshop. No reduction in registration fee can be made. Student status requires enrollment in an accredited degree program, postdoc training, or medical internship. Proof of student status must be provided at the time of payment.
Free out-of-print books about the laboratory mouse provided online. If you are not familiiar with mouse genetics or anatomy you might find the advance reading helpful.

Lodging at The Highseas Conference Center is included in the registration fee. Highseas is a spacious mansion perched on the cliffs overlooking the entrance to Frenchman's Bay and offers casual dormitory-style housing with shared bedrooms and bathrooms. Highseas cannot accomodate families.

Bar Harbor is served by two airports:
- Hancock County/Bar Harbor Airport (BHB)
- Bangor Airport (BGR)

Car
Bar Harbor is approximately 6 hours by car from the greater Boston area.
